Gulf Coast residents taking no chances as storm nears open waters
Worried and storm-savvy shoppers in southern Louisiana, Texas and
Mississippi stripped stores of batteries, bottled water and canned
goods Thursday as uncertainty grew over where Hurricane Gustav will
finally go. Virtually the entire central and western Gulf Coast is under a state of
emergency this morning as local, state, and federal officials prepare
for Gustav, and look beyond it to Tropical Storm Hanna, which is
