Okay. I am getting a lot of request for information re missing persons in the comments to my post. I do not want to discourage anyone from posting these. You never know who on the WW web could be reading my blog and happen to know of the whereabouts of someone whose name has been posted here. For example, I have a friend whose mother lives in Ocean Springs. She may be able to find out information on some of these people. At the very least I can email her, ask her to look at the list, and see what she can find out. The problem is the blog is just what it is - i.e. a blog. So I have no real good way of organizing the comments (and hence the info on a particular missing person ) into a list that visitors can read or easily respond to. I started posting these to The Healing Journey Blog, but its become unwieldy. I can't keep up with it. So by all means please do continue to post missing persons information here via the comment section of this blog. But I also strongly suggest those with missing person ?s go to the NOLA friends and Family Forum, and the nowpublic.com board and post your loved ones names and photos there as well. For those of you who are asking questions, want responses, or want to mobilize to help in some way, please join my yahoo group "Surviving Hurricane Katrina". The yahoo group can more easily facilitate two way dialogue amongst us. If you don't want to be inundated with emails, choose to receive the digest (a once a day summary of all posts in one email) in lieu of the option to get individual emails on an as they come in basis. 1/20/06 - This forum is now defunct! I took it down a few days ago as nobody was posting anymore and it was collecting spam. I have since decided that the comment section of a blog is as good a place as any to foster dialogue. The forum did help me make an important connection. Maybe one day soon I'll write a post about it.
On another note, about this time my friend Dr. Lauren Artress, (a therapist and Episcopalian Priest in San Francisco) wrote me concerned that the efforts to connect missing loved ones was becoming fragmented because family members were posting notices in too many different places around the web. She wanted me to direct my blog readers to some kind of "official missing persons place". But it was already too late - CNN had a safe list going, Craigslist had one, NOLA had one, etc. etc... and at this point there was no "official missing persons place". Everything was in chaos.
Additionally I could not stop the outpouring of commenters looking for their missing loved ones. I just went with it, approved the comments and prayed every day for the missing to show up...and sometimes they did. My best days then were the ones where someone wrote me and said "thank you for posting my comment, my loved one has been found".
